Red balloons appear in Set at Random. This image was inspired by a film, The Red Balloon (French: Le Ballon Rouge) which was written, produced and directed by Albert Lamorisse.
With a running time of thirty-five minutes, it is the only short film to have won the Academy Award for best Original Screenplay.
The film was made in 1956. Some of the scenes were shot in the Paris suburb of Belleville. The suburb is also used as a location in Set at Random.
